Part 4/8:
The integration of AI in elderly care is bolstered by Malaysian startup Smart Peep, which provides a specialized "elderly sitter" system. Since launching trials in 2018, Smart Peep saw a breakthrough in 2019, after refining its technology through several iterations. The core goal is to address the widespread shortage of caregivers in Malaysia, as well as Singapore and Australia, where the system is now in use across fifteen facilities.
Smart Peep's system boasts an impressive detection accuracy rate of around 97%, with minimal missed events. Healthcare providers utilizing this system report significant reductions in falls and injuries, with effectiveness improving from 50-60% in the first year to up to 80% as caregivers become more familiar with the technology.
