The stored microbiomes can be reintroduced into users’ bodies through a process called fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). This involves transplanting processed stool into the colon or stomach surgically. FMT has already proven effective in treating gastrointestinal infections like Clostridioides difficile (C. diff), a bacterium responsible for severe diarrhea and colon inflammation. In fact, FMT can cure up to 90% of C. diff cases, often acquired from contaminated surfaces.
