Part 7/12:
Differences in Production Environments: Then and Now
The 1994 Crow was produced during a chaotic, often unregulated filming period. Set reports describe rampant issues—from a crane hitting live power lines causing burns, to a crew member driving a screwdriver through his hand, and a sculptor crashing a car into a studio. Allegations of heavy drug use, including cocaine, also hovered over the production, adding to an atmosphere of chaos and risk. Despite—or perhaps because of—its rough production conditions, the film’s atmospheric grit became a signature aspect, capturing a dark, grimy aesthetic that defined its visual style.
