To address this vulnerability, India has introduced production-linked incentive schemes, attracting investment in domestic manufacturing of silicon wafers, cells, and modules. The government has announced a $10 billion package to develop semiconductor manufacturing, aspiring to increase India’s share in global module production from 1.1% to 25% by 2026. However, building a comprehensive, self-reliant supply chain for high-tech solar components will require decades of strategic investment, development of raw material industries, and infrastructure expansion.
