Part 4/13:
Survivors recount the night with stark clarity. Some describe how they narrowly escaped, while others bear visible reminders of the attack. A survivor who lost her eye and bears permanent burns reflects on her ongoing medical struggles and the sense of hopelessness she sometimes feels. Many, like her, express that forgiveness does not equate to forgetting; the trauma continues to influence their lives.
Despite the passage of time, healing remains an ongoing process. Compensation from the government arrived only in 2020, nearly two decades after the tragedy. Many survivors continue to contend with medical expenses, psychological scars, and disrupted lives. For some, the desire for justice persists, especially when news of perpetrators being released from prison sparks renewed pain and anger.
