The Series' Context and Setting
The Penguin kicks off in the aftermath of The Batman, immediately immersing viewers back into Gothams’ dark, gritty world. The show explores the power vacuum left after the death of Carmine Falcone, a pivotal crime figure, with Mark Strong cast as the new head of the crime family, Alberto Falcone. The title character — Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin — is portrayed by Colin Farrell, whose transformation and performance are praised as a standout element of the series.
