Part 12/14:
Despite the dangers, many refugees continue to attempt perilous journeys toward safety. For instance, May, a young woman from Chin State, left Myanmar in 2022 and traveled over a week through Thailand before reaching Malaysia. She now lives in a refugee community in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, awaiting protection and possible resettlement.
For many, registration with UNHCR marks the first step toward a more secure future but often remains an arduous process. Due to capacity constraints, long processing times, and complex international relationships, resettlement opportunities remain limited, and many refugees remain in limbo for years.
