Is Car Sharing Economically Viable?
After a week of usage, I calculated that I spent SGD 449 on car sharing, roughly SGD 1,800 monthly — comparable to the average cost of owning an entry-level car in Singapore. However, for high daily mileage (around 40 km a day), car sharing offered little savings, especially considering occasional issues like difficulty booking due to peak demand or availability constraints.
Transport experts suggest that for those traveling less than 20 km daily, car sharing can be significantly more economical than ownership. Conversely, for extensive daily travel exceeding 100 km, owning a car becomes more cost-effective.
