Disney’s Response: Cutting Back on TV Output
In light of these setbacks, insiders suggest Disney is taking strategic steps to weather the storm. Reports indicate that Disney plans to reduce its Star Wars TV output from approximately two live-action series per year to one, in an effort to salvage the franchise and prevent further financial hemorrhage.
Since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Disney has shifted largely to streaming, producing numerous series in a bid to keep the franchise alive. However, the results have been mixed at best. The Acolyte, a highly anticipated but ultimately polarizing series, marked the end of a successful model—its poor performance lighting the way for possible reassessment.
