Many critics and fans believe Hollywood’s decline in quality stems primarily from poor writing and predictable tropes. Feminist-driven reinterpretations of the hero’s journey often strip away complexity, replacing it with shallow empowerment arcs that do little to develop characters organically.
Furthermore, the villainization of traditionally “misguided” or misunderstood female characters—who are often portrayed as oppressed by patriarchy or misunderstood—is a common trope. These villains often turn out to be well-meaning or self-sacrificing, reducing genuine conflict and tension.
