Although these films sometimes garner praise, they rarely perform as expected at the box office—highlighting audience weariness.
This phenomenon isn’t limited to action or sci-fi. Kids’ movies like Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2 have featured female characters portrayed as strong female “bosses.” While representation isn’t inherently problematic, the overuse and stereotypical depiction of female leads contribute to a backlash.
