Lex Luthor, traditionally a calculating villain, is reduced to a comic relief figure with unconvincing motivation, undercutting the gravity of his character. Even the depiction of Superman’s alien origins and Krypton’s lore is criticized for being superficial, rushed, or outright incoherent—debates ensue over whether some of the plot points, like Jor-El’s corrupted messages or Clark’s formative memories, will be retconned later.
