The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was built by visionary Kevin Feige, whose response in 2018 to criticism about the lack of female characters was to promise a greater presence of women. However, this shift was less about storytelling and more about ideological representation, often at the expense of established characters and narrative cohesion. Numerous stories began sidelining legacy male characters—either diminishing or outright vandalizing them—to elevate female characters.
