The three-day opening for Aquaman 2 was the second-lowest for any DCU film, second only to Blue Beetle, which opened at $25 million. When examining the full context of the DCEU's history, the numbers are even more dismal. For comparison, Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 rank just above The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984, both of which had the advantage of released-on-streaming strategies or limited theatrical runs.
Despite Shazam! 2 managing a $30 million opening and earning a modest global total of $132 million, Aquaman 2 is falling short both domestically and internationally. Its international hashtag isn’t much brighter—while China showed some promise, the global numbers overall fail to make a compelling case for blockbuster success.
