Aquaman 2 was projected to need approximately $600 million globally to reach profitability. However, by the end of its theatrical run, it appears unlikely to have earned more than $400 million worldwide. The film debuted at number one but with a modest $27-28 million during its opening weekend. Even with the holiday boost from Christmas screenings (~$50 million from China alone), the movie’s overall totals have been underwhelming. Currently, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is projected to struggle to reach $400 million globally, making the $600 million threshold necessary for profit a distant goal.
