The Woke Mob’s Failed Boycott of Hogwarts Legacy
Following Rowling's incident, activists shifted their focus to her broader franchise, particularly the highly anticipated video game Hogwarts Legacy. Marketed as an immersive RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, the game quickly became a target for boycott calls by those opposed to Rowling’s views.
Yet, despite these efforts—ranging from social media campaigns to urging people to abstain from purchasing—the boycott was a complete failure. Hogwarts Legacy not only survived the controversy but soared in sales. In 2023, it became one of the year's best-selling games, possibly the top-seller, with some reports suggesting it may have been partially eclipsed by the release of Call of Duty titles.
