Sydney Freeland, the series director, and a self-described Native American and transgender filmmaker, played a prominent role in shaping the show's focus. Freeland’s comments reveal an emphasis on leaning into Echo’s villainous origins, as well as her indigenous roots, to push boundaries and explore new narratives. She also teased an abundance of cameo appearances from other MCU characters—most notably Daredevil and Kingpin—intended to draw viewers with the promise of familiar faces and cross-series connections.
