Part 2/13:
The Galactic Star Cruiser, launched in 2022, was marketed as an ultra-immersive, role-playing vacation experience for die-hard Star Wars fans. With just over 100 rooms, it promised guests a voyage into a galaxy far, far away, blending storytelling with themed activities and environments. However, it was painfully obvious from the outset that the hotel was a niche product—expensive, exclusory, and lacking authentic Star Wars substance.
The Washington Post summed it up succinctly: the hotel was simply too niche and too expensive to sustain a broad customer base. More than a spectacle, the Star Cruiser became a symbol of Disney’s overreach—a costly misjudgment that ultimately shuttered after just one year in operation.
