The aftermath revealed troubling attitudes from some of the coaching staff, notably Garland State head coach Mickey Joseph. In a post-game interview, Joseph justified the violence by emphasizing perceived disrespect from the opposing team. He described his players taking their time walking down to the field, considering it a sign of disrespect, and stated that such disrespect would be met with equivalent retaliation.
