While these restrictions are an attempt to contain China's growth, they may ultimately serve as a motivator for Chinese researchers and institutions to accelerate the development of indigenous technology. It is suggested that, with initiatives like improved Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, China is well-positioned to catch up, if not surpass its Western counterparts.
