This dissatisfaction comes from years of disappointment as McCarthy's teams struggled to make significant playoff progress despite boasting a talented roster, including stars like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

He asserts that the split was not entirely fuelled by the Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones’ frustrations. Rather, it seems McCarthy was equally weary of the high-pressure environment that comes from working under Jones' demanding watch.

Evan notes that once McCarthy’s contract was set to expire, it seemed inevitable he would not return based on the lack of a new agreement being reached.
