Part 3/4:
As he approached the 17th hole, Nicklaus held a three-stroke lead, placing himself in a favorable position. The 17th, a notorious par 3 stretched out to 218 yards, presented a daunting challenge with the crashing ocean on the left and strategically placed bunkers surrounding the kidney-shaped green.
The Moment of Glory
Infused with confidence amid the tempestuous winds, Nicklaus grabbed his 1-iron club, opting for a bold approach. All he needed was a par to seize the moment; however, his instincts pushed him to aim directly for the flagstick. Against the fierce winds, Nicklaus struck his ball cleanly. In an astonishing display of skill, the ball sliced through the gusts, striking the flagstick and stopping just inches from the hole.
