Operating since 1982, this plant is considered one of the most polluting in the country and contributes excessively to mercury emissions—releasing 12 times the legally allowed limit. Tragically, a long-term study has associated coal dust exposure with the premature deaths of approximately 20 million Americans living within a hundred-mile radius of coal plants.
