In addition to the relocation challenges, there was an ongoing debate regarding the playing surface at Sutter Field. The A's management considered replacing the grass with artificial turf, a move that players staunchly opposed. The harmful effects of artificial turf can have serious long-term ramifications, causing injuries and discomfort. Thankfully, the turf plan was scrapped after pushback from players, offering a slight reprieve in an otherwise bleak situation.
