One tip is to leave the root end intact. The root acts as a natural holding mechanism, keeping the onion layers together during slicing. It also prevents the onion from falling apart prematurely, making it easier to dice evenly.
Step 3: Make Vertical Cuts Along the Onion
Position the onion with the root side down on a cutting board. To dice it, make vertical cuts from top to bottom, up and down along the onion’s natural lines. Do not cut across the lines, which can cause uneven pieces or shreds.
Hold the onion securely with your fingers curled inward, creating a claw grip to avoid accidental cuts.
