The explosion took place outside an apartment block on Ranski Prospect, just a few kilometers from the Kremlin. Authorities reported that the general and his assistant were leaving the building around 6:00 AM when the homemade explosive device detonated. The blast was powerful enough to blow out windows from the first to the third floors of the building and caused significant damage to the entrance door as well as the general's vehicle.
