Among the attendees at the ceremony are also representatives from South Korea, including Chang An-su, who was just two years old when the Hiroshima bombing occurred. This town holds the legacy of a significant number of “hibakusha” - those affected by the bomb - many of whom returned to South Korea yet faced discrimination and neglect. Chang highlighted the struggles he and others have faced due to the stigma surrounding their experiences, “I hope that our voices will be heard and lead to increased awareness of Korean hibakusha at home and abroad.”
