Part 1/6:
The Growing Need for Recovery Support in Iowa
Drug abuse has reached alarming levels across the United States, with Iowa being no exception. The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlights a staggering increase in overdose deaths. In 2022, the rate soared to nearly 13%, with opioids accounting for 7% of those deaths and methamphetamine for over 6%. Perhaps most troubling is the statistic that nearly 85% of those who died had a potential opportunity for intervention, and 61% had a bystander present who could have intervened. Yet of those who tragically succumbed to overdose, only 2.6% were receiving current treatment.
