Unlike the film adaptation, the books reveal that Sam uses the Ring on multiple occasions. During one such instance, he encounters orcs and must become invisible to evade capture. While wearing the Ring, Sam experiences a distorted perception of reality and hears conversations in the Black Speech of Mordor, leading him to realize Frodo is still alive. Despite the power of the Ring, Sam is acutely aware of its malevolence, experiencing feelings of being hunted and visible rather than hidden.

As he draws closer to Mount Doom, the Ring seems to grow more oppressive. Sam has the clarity to recognize that his safety in wearing the Ring could betray him, leading Sauron to discover his location. The closer to destruction he ventures, the stronger the Ring’s temptation becomes.
