In the films, there is a brief scene where Sam hesitates to return the Ring to Frodo, hinting at his internal conflict. The books, however, provide a more intricate portrayal. After Frodo is stung by Shelob and lies seemingly dead, Sam experiences profound despair. He contemplates his next steps and ultimately decides it is his duty to complete Frodo’s quest. Herein lies a significant moment: when Sam takes the Ring from Frodo’s lifeless body, he comes face-to-face with temptation.
