Sam's role in the quest is undeniably vital; it is reasonable to assert that without him, the mission to destroy the Ring may not have succeeded. Yet, the question remains: Was Sam ever tempted by the Ring? The answer is a tentative yes. Although Sam does not possess a heart inclined toward greed, he encounters moments of temptation, particularly depicted in both the films and the books.
