For malevolent characters, like Sauron and Morgoth, the use of magic comes with grave consequences. When they rebel against their creator, the connection to their source of power is severed, leading to permanent weakness. Each spell they cast erodes their strength further, culminating in a diminished capacity for future magic. This cyclical decline is exemplified in "The Silmarillion," where Morgoth, who seeks control through his power, ultimately becomes reliant on subordinates, having lost much of his might.
