GameZedu highlighted the absurdity in gameplay design, sharing that much of the adventure feels mechanical and uninviting. Instead of engaging exploration, players find themselves undertaking monotonous tasks with a non-existent combat system. Instead of feeling like a pirate, players spend an inordinate amount of time almost lifelessly moving around with minimal interaction. This, mixed with low-quality graphics and a lackluster storyline, led him to declare Skull and Bones as one of the worst games he played this year.
