As the first half continued, the intensity did not wane. The Botafogo players called for a penalty, claiming a foul in the box involving Luí Henrique and Atlético's goalkeeper, Everson. Upon review, it seemed the referees might consider awarding a penalty kick:
"If this goes to VAR, it could lead to another scoring chance for Botafogo."
Ultimately, the decision was made to award the penalty, allowing Botafogo’s Alex to step up and take the shot. With nerves high, Alex sent a powerful shot into the corner of the net, doubling Botafogo's lead to 2-0.
