In the pivotal fifth inning, the Dodgers took advantage of two Yankee errors to score five runs and tie the game. Freddie Freeman delivered the big blow, a two-run single that knotted the score at 5-5. Teoscar Hernandez's RBI double then gave the Dodgers their first lead of the night.
"This one inning is a comedy of errors," said the announcer. "And if they lose this game, it's their own fault."
The Yankees fought back, regaining the lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from John Carlos Stanton. But the Dodgers refused to go away, tying the game again in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Gavin Lux.
