Takeshi's investigation leads him to the sick and impoverished areas of town where he confronts Bancroft himself. In a surreal exchange, Bancroft appears indifferent to the suffering around him, valuing short moments of happiness over long-term solutions. However, when Bancroft suddenly succumbs to a deadly virus, the reality of his immortality and his freedom from death becomes painfully clear to Takeshi.
