Part 5/8:
With Marguerite's passing, Baxter experiences a fleeting sense of freedom as he settles into a new life with Anne and Jean. However, Baxter’s struggles become intertwined with the couple’s life as Anne finds herself pregnant, causing Baxter to grapple with jealousy and confusion over the couple's devotion to their child. As Baxter feels neglected, the seeds of tragedy begin to sprout, leading him to contemplate malicious acts against the newborn.
Charles, meanwhile, becomes obsessed with creating a makeshift fortress in the junkyard, paralleling his increasingly troubled psyche. His fascination with war and battle mirrored in his relationship with Baxter leads to disturbing ideas about training the dog to attack.
