The story begins with a tragic incident as a young girl named Lorianne is attacked by a sinister clown while playing in her neighborhood. Her disappearance leads to the town grappling with a series of child attacks that the local police fail to solve. Frustrated by the lack of progress from authorities, Mike Hanlon, one of the original group of childhood friends, takes it upon himself to investigate the ominous return of the creature, Pennywise the Clown.
