As the meteor shower begins, chaos erupts. Animals scramble for safety, seeking refuge in a cave while Sid and his friends devise a plan to confront the adversity. The storyline shifts, showing a glimpse into the lives of alternative prehistoric denizens, including Buck the weasel and a community of dinosaurs living peacefully until the meteor disturbance disrupts their tranquility.

Buck’s discovery of ancient totems leads him to believe that history could repeat itself, and another extinction event is imminent if action is not taken soon. Realizing time is of the essence, Manny, Sid, and their friends join forces with Buck to thwart the disaster.
