Fast forward 15 years; an adult Judy overcomes a series of grueling tests at the Zootopia police academy, ultimately becoming the city’s newest officer. Despite her elation, reality strikes when she is assigned to the role of traffic warden by her skeptical chief, Chief Bogo. Aware of her minority status in a department dominated by larger predators, Judy feels the weight of disappointment. Nonetheless, she resolves to prove her merit, setting high goals to issue tickets in an effort to elevate her standing.

In an accidental encounter with Nick Wilde, a cunning fox with street-smart tactics, Judy's life takes a twist. Nick’s character serves as a foil to Judy’s—reflecting the deeply entrenched suspicions between prey and predator that permeate Zootopian society.
