When Jim surprises his family with a rare orange, their joy quickly turns to panic when his daughter Maddie spots the population control police entering their building. In a frantic effort to hide Zoe from authorities, they attempt to shield her from discovery, but chaos ensues, and Jim is arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison.

A Pivotal Reunion

Two years later, Elizabeth, through ingenuity and desperation, manages to meet Jim during a prison visit and reveals her plans to be part of the 10th pilgrimage to Terra Nova. Jim's only chance of being with his family is to escape from prison, which he manages to do using a hidden laser knife.
