Meanwhile, Fuller retreats to the comforts of his home—only to be jolted into a new reality. When he closes his eyes, he reawakens in present-day Los Angeles, 1999. The earlier vibrancy of 1937 turns out to be an elaborate virtual reality simulation, with Fuller as its creator. As he navigates through this contemporary guise, the characters he once interacted with in the simulation remain blissfully unaware of their electronic nature. Yet, the stark juxtaposition of the simulated beings and his human consciousness bears the weight of tragic irony.
