In the backdrop of the unfolding disaster, we meet the Creaker Brothers—responsible and hardworking Pat, and the reckless Ronnie, who finds himself entangled in illegal activities. As the city descends deeper into catastrophe, the brothers decide to escape the suffocating atmosphere by engaging in some reckless fun, which lands them in hot water with Charles, the wealthiest man in town. An altercation ensues when Charles confronts them with a rifle, but they narrowly escape thanks to the intervention of a Good Samaritan named Gourd.
