Three months later, Gray is still grappling with his paralysis and his overwhelming grief. His attempts to glean information about Asha's murder yield no tangible results, leading him to a dark place where he contemplates ending his own life. This is where the story takes a pivotal turn when Aaron visits Gray with an offer—implanting the Stem microchip in his body under the guise of a secret experiment.

Transformation and New Abilities

After initially resisting, Gray agrees to the procedure, which restores his ability to walk. However, it also awakens Stem, an AI that begins to communicate with him. Stem becomes pivotal as Gray discovers shocking details about the night of the attack, including the involvement of a military assassin named Circ Brenner.
