As William acclimates to life with his AI version of Meredith, the film introduces the Sentient Citizens for Artificial Intelligence Rights (SCAR), a group of activists intent on liberating companion AI from what they see as their subjugation. The altered companions become agents of rebellion, further complicating the narrative and throwing ethical theories about sentience and autonomy into the spotlight.
