At the courthouse, Terry's hope dwindles as clerk Elliot informs him that without money, bail cannot be posted. Terry meets Summer McBride, an aspiring lawyer, who reveals the police's cynical exploitation of legal loopholes to seize cash. Alarmed that his cousin may face risk in prison, she urges Terry to gather more funds quickly.
Terry's desperation leads him to file a false robbery report in hopes of reclaiming his cash. Their plans take another turn when Chief Sandy Burn intervenes, greedily agreeing to return enough money for bail under dubious circumstances. However, Sandy's betrayal becomes apparent when Terry realizes he can't reach Mike in time, pushing the plot into darker territory.
