Amidst this turmoil, some regions have taken matters into their own hands. In southern parts of Sudan like the Nuba Mountains, remnants of the old SPLM (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement) have declared a de facto independent state, dubbed "New Sudan." These groups have established their own local governance, schools, and courts, fighting for a secular and democratic future—an undeniable testament to the country’s deep divisions and the failure of national authority.
