By the time they settled into their campsite, nearly a foot of snow covered the ground, with fresh snow falling continuously. The visibility was low, and the decision to retreat to the visitor center to ride out the storm while cooking a hearty meal seemed entirely justified. With some improvised Thanksgiving food in tow, they prepared to weather the storm with warmth and comfort.
The Power of Preparation
Preparation proved crucial. Passing winds and blowing snow meant that safety should always come first. As the night settled in, the knowledge that they might have to dig themselves out in the morning loomed large. Several feet of snow critically impacted their camping experience but also served as an instructor, reminding them to respect winter's fury.
