Money itself isn't the motivation. Freedom is, but money is what ultimately buys that. I'm not into expensive things and can live relatively frugally, but the ability to be able to do what I want with my time is what is most important for me.

This is quite an astonishing angle. Basically you're right. When people can be able to do what they want with their time, it makes them seem free. Like you, I'm a frugal person because my needs exceeds my wants.
