🎞️ Video Embeds

It looks as though the ability to use the embed code for YouTube videos has gone and won't be coming back. It's great that we can now use the video url, but that leaves the small matter of the 1000s of videos posted previously in music, travel, books and more (on Threads and long-form) which were designed to be evergreen.

Are we going to embark on a major editing mission @taskmaster4450le et al, or cut our losses and move on? The music section on LeoGlossary will need to be addressed, and I'll need to update the travel and book stuff in due course rather than just leave it. Perhaps @khaleelkazi can confirm but catching up with yesterday's Lion's Den appears this is the case.

It's one of those occasions where it might be better to be late to the party, but I guess as an early adopter you take the rough with the smooth…

Sort:

I think holding off making any decisions until the new interface/functionality for videos are in place, like @taskmaster4450le suggests, is a good idea.

Going back and editing thousands of entries is not very tempting, at least not at this time, and I'll admit I've considered to just say that's that. Not very eager to add new music/videos with the new solution either, in case that suddenly stops working too.

I do have literally thousands of songs lined up for posting though

Yeah. It does appear to be permanent. Khal was clear on that just looking in the threadcast.

Yes there will have to be some editing. We are going to have to decide what to do. You are right, it is thousands.

Plus I wonder how much the video section being added to Leo will alter things.

A lot to consider.

The purpose behind these projects was to build a database and have stuff for people to read, isten to, etc and keep them here. I know it won't get done over night and will be alot of work to go back through and edit everything that is there alrady. Early apoption can be a blessing and a curse.
